Things to Keep in Mind When Using Industrial Belt Grinders
At Woodward Fab, we value safety and quality over anything else. All our products are designed to ensure maximum safety to users. It is being confirmed that the mishandling of abrasive machines is one of the prime reasons of accidents in the metalworking industries. These accidents can be easily avoided in the following ways:
- Check the belt for damages or defects before starting the machine.
- Maintain a certain distance to avoid bodily contact with the machine, especially when it is in action.
- Do not use the machine near materials of flammable nature.
- Belt grinding may produce a high amount of dust, mist or gas, which are hazardous. The byproducts are also known to cause explosions. So, it is important to wear the right personal protective equipment (PPE), while working with the machine. Also, ensure that people near the machine are protected from debris.
- Avoid wearing jewelry, loose clothes, and ties, because they may be pulled by the machine, thereby causing accidents.
- Cover your head properly because loose hair may also get entangled in the machine.
- Ensure the locking mechanism on the cover of the machine is intact.
- The belt should be mounted in the direction marked as run. Conduct 30 seconds run after the belt mounting to ensure its proper functioning.
- Check for any sounds or symptoms during the trial run.
- A workpiece should be supported properly and secured before starting the machine.
- It is always recommended to use the belt dry unless it is mentioned.
- Avoid exerting excessive pressure on the belt, as this may lead to overheating and breakdown.
